What the offer document says
The terms below come from Alpha Halal Fund's own offer document — the minimums, loads, lock-ins and settlement windows that decide what this fund actually costs you to enter and leave.
- Structure
- Open-ended Shari'ah-compliant collective investment scheme, constituted as an umbrella-type unit trust under the Deed of Trust of the Alpha Capital Unit Trust Scheme (short name 'ALPHA Unit Trust Scheme' / 'ALPHA Fund'); Alpha Halal Fund is currently its only sub-fund. Uses a Wakalah (agency) contract: the Fund uses investors' pooled money to buy ethical assets on their behalf.
- Objective
- To basket ethical financial products within the prescribed territory (EAC and SADC) that adhere to Shari'ah principles, so as to accommodate ethical and Islamic investors whose individual investment options in conventional markets are limited, and to serve as a diversification tool for investors generally.
- Asset allocation
- Halal Equities (up to 70% of AUM); Sukuk (up to 60% of AUM); Halal ETFs (up to 30% of AUM); Shari'ah Compliant Deposits (up to 10% of AUM)
- Benchmark
- FTSE Russell Southern African Regional Halal Index
- Minimum initial investment
- TZS 100,000
- Minimum additional investment
- TZS 10,000
- Management fee
- 2% per annum of Assets Under Management (the 'Wakala Fee', per the Contract for Management Services), calculated on a weekly average and payable in arrears on a monthly basis. The Manager may charge fees at a lesser rate at its sole discretion (in which case it must itself bear any expenses beyond the approved rate), and may in its sole discretion reduce the Periodic Charge for Unitholders' benefit.
- Tax treatment
- Gains derived by a Unitholder upon redemption of units by a unit trust are not chargeable to tax as at the date of the Offer Document (Second Schedule to the Income Tax Act 2008, section 10 and Second Schedule item (u), exempting 'amounts derived from gains on realisation of asset by a Unitholder on redemption of a Unit by a Unit trust' from income tax); Under the current VAT Act, dealings in recognised stock exchanges are not subject to VAT; only Brokers' commission is liable to VAT; Tax laws are subject to change, and the Offer Document's tax information is for general guidance only -- each investor is advised to consult their own tax adviser
